What Is Best for America?
(Hint: You Can Be Part of It)
As we commemorate the 248th anniversary of the American declaration of independence from Great Britain, it’s sobering to acknowledge how far our country has strayed from her founding on biblical principles.
We will not dwell on all that is wrong with our country, but as citizens of heaven, who currently also hold American citizenship, we have a pressing question before us: What does God expect from us as Christian Americans? Is there truly anything we can do about the spiritual, moral, cultural, and political chaos around us or are all efforts merely rearranging Titanic deck chairs?
The Apostle Paul– a man who was also familiar with national chaos and corruption– gave us clear commands that every Christian is to obey regarding their country:
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time…”
(1 Timothy 2:1-6)
America’s Greatest Need #1: Praying Christians!
If we are not praying for all those in authority over us as Americans, we are disobeying our first civil responsibility–one commissioned by God Himself! Ephesians 6 teaches us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual powers. Prayer is the believers’ power against the wicked one and it’s our power against his schemes for our nation.
America’s Greatest Need #2: Quiet and Peace for her Christians
Can you imagine if everyday headlines were about peace and quiet instead of violence and corruption? According to the above scripture, God desires this for His children as they sojourn in this world, and it’s very important for America’s third need.
America’s Greatest Need #3: The Gospel!
No political candidate can change hearts. No party slogan can tell us how to be saved. Yet, this is the heart of God and He says that is the reason He wants us to pray and have quiet, peaceful lives. It’s not just so we have comfortable Christianity; it’s because God wills all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.
Is this our desire? Do we wish for all men to be saved, even those on the opposite political aisle than us? The gospel is America’s greatest need and using science to convey the gospel is CMOTO’s mission. While you’re praying for our leaders, please pray also for us as we proclaim the gospel and truth of God’s Word. America needs us!
