Fossils as defined in Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary Eleventh Edition are: “a remnant, impression, or trace of an organism of past geologic ages that has been preserved in the earth’s crust” (Emphasis mine). The writers of this dictionary as in most other dictionaries, have been influenced to believe the prevalent teachings of modern geology. Today’s secular mantra is that the earth is 4.5 billion years old and the geologic record of the layers (strata) all over the earth represent many millions of years of slow deposition laid down on top of each other. But does the actual empirical evidence support this idea? The answer is “No.”
One does not need to be a scientist to see that most of the geologic layers are so sharply defined from each other that there is no time for erosion between them, as is obviously seen in the top layers of the earth’s crust today. So why is it that we are discovering the remains of organic material, creatures, and plants preserved as fossils that in most cases have become as hard (with some exceptions) as the solidified layer of rock in which we find them? Such finds are not limited to any local region, but are found all over the world. Something big must have happened!
Well, something big did happen to this world approximately 4,500 years ago. It was the worldwide flood in the days of Noah as recorded in the Book of Genesis. With this biblical understanding of the earth’s past, creationists understand most of the geologic layers to represent not millions of years, but the order in which the huge mud flows were deposited during the year of the flood. Such a more logical and scientific understanding of the past makes sense when, for example, we find soft tissue in a dinosaur bone that according to evolutionary dating methods (which are not to be trusted) is claimed to be at least sixty-five million years old.
How could soft-tissued creatures like jellyfish be preserved as a fossil when normally such tissue would deteriorate very quickly if exposed? The only logical answer is that it must have happened very quickly— almost instantly. How could a fish be caught in the act of eating another fish and be deprived of the rest of the meal by instant fossilization? How could an ichthyosaur be frozen in the midst of the act of bearing young? We also show a fossilized thorn because the evolutionary idea of thorns being millions of years old contradicts the Bible which says they did not arise until after Adam and Eve when God cursed the ground.
The only logical and sensible understanding of such phenomena is that all these examples of fossils were victims of a catastrophic worldwide flood that buried them in the vast muddy flows that covered the whole planet. There fore the Bible is the best and most reliable source to help us understand what happened in the past. It explains the history of what happened and why.
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually…So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” And Jesus said:
“And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all” (Luke 17:26,27).
The Bible is always the best source to understand the real history of the world.

We love helping people put the truths of the authority and reliability of God‘s Word into their hearts. We also enjoy getting resources for these truths into their hands. And with the holiday season coming up, the bookstore can be a blessing both to the ministry and to your family and friends!
Everyone has a worldview, and every worldview has questions that it must answer. The truth will naturally produce the best and most sensible answers, and the Bible does just that.
